Stack's Bowers Auction March 2021 U.S. Coins Auction Mar-2021 1652 Oak Tree Shilling. Noe-5, Salmon 3-D, W-. Rarity-2. IN at Bottom. Fine Details--Damage (PCGS). 42.0 grains. This piece has been clipped down to a near-uniform circular shape. The clipping is rather well executed around the center of the coin, the reverse with a sharp date and denomination and much of the inner beaded circle complete. For the peripheral letters on that side, only the lower third to half of each is present. The lower right side of the reverse is worn smooth, as is virtually the entire obverse, the latter side with portions of the letters THV as the only design elements present. Generally silver-gray with deeper olive-charcoal outlines in the protected areas around the design features. An intriguing piece, sharp central reverse motifs are this coin's strongest suit, explaining why PCGS has mounted it with that side up in the holder. PCGS# 848317.
