Stack's Bowers Auction The January 2012 Americana Sale Jan-2012 from Tom Rinaldo 8/2000;SLT 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 12-Q, W-2885. Rarity-3. 1787 over 1887. IN DE. EF-45. 134.0 grains. Deep golden tan with glossy, chiefly hard surfaces. No extraneous marks are noted on either side of this choice example of a popular overdate variety -- the date was first entered as 1887, then corrected in the die to 1787, but what's a century among friends? Heavy obverse clash marks obscure much of ONN, the design somewhat off-center to the right but not affecting CONNEC, the reverse off-center to the right as well with the rim tight to the top of Liberty's head and hand, natural rim split at 9 o'clock, die break at B bold and connected to the rim, another lighter crack from the dentils at 5 o'clock to the bottom of the shield, another heavier crack in the field between IN and DE. Easily among the finest known examples of the variety and no doubt occupying a solid position in the Condition Census as well.
