Stack's Bowers Auction August 2023 Global Showcase Auction U.S. Coins Aug-2023 1793 Flowing Hair Cent. Chain Reverse. S-1. Rarity-4. AMERI. Good-4 (PCGS). Boldly rendered throughout much of the reverse, the obverse is expectably softer with a faint date, yet well outlined portrait and fully legible LIBERTY. Olive-brown surfaces with light carbon explaining the speckles of darker color scattered about. Microscopic pitting is easily overlooked in hand, and an obverse cut is out of the way at the upper left border. A more than respectable circulated example of this particularly prized Sheldon number among 1793 Chain cents, the only one with the AMERI. abbreviation in the legend. Provenance: From the Jerome S. Reznick Collection. Earlier from Hollinbeck-Kagin's 298th Mail Sale, September 1972, lot 996. Collector tag with provenance notation included. PCGS# 1340.
