PCGS graded MS-63+ Brown.Frosty tan and light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The only notable marks are a speck of darker toning wedged between the bust tip and the dentils and a half dozen puffs of similar toning on the reverse including one right of the F in OF and another at the ribbon end left of the fraction. The obverse is sharply struck and the reverse is nicely struck except for weakness in the leaves under ICA. MDS, Breen state III, with clashmarks from the denominator at RTY. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Breen large cent encyclopedia. Graded MS60 and CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #23182. Bland says MS62 and CC#2 in his census. Both census takers agree there are only two mint state examples of this variety. Our grade is MS62. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer.(PCGS # 36314) Value $20,000 - UP Ex Charles J.
