1831 Matron Head Cent. N-12/2. Rarity-1 (Rarity-6 for die state). Large Letters. EF-45 (PCGS).
A highly significant coin for the advanced specialist, one of the best examples extant of the rare 3-point cud or "pyramid break" die state. A bold EF with decent, glossy reddish-brown and steel surfaces that just have some very slightly rough texture on areas of the patina. Noyes photo #36768 and tied for CC#3 for the die state in his census at the time of the Dan Holmes sale. This piece has been one of the highlights of extensive die state offerings in this and several important large cent collections and is worthy of another great cabinet.
