Stack's Bowers Auction The March 2011 Baltimore Auction Mar-2011 Eliasberg-B&M 4/97:1873 1831 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-102. Rarity-1. MS-67 (PCGS). Extraordinary quality for this date, in fact it is the only MS-67 1831 Half Dollar graded by PCGS. This coin is also the single-finest example of the 1831 O-102 Bust Half Dollar listed by Stephen J. Herrman in the Autumn 2010 revision to Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839. An impressively pedigreed piece, both sides exhibit the awesome originality that characterizes most of the coins from the famed Eliasberg Collection. On the obverse, we see russet, reddish-rose and sea-green peripheral highlights around an otherwise silver-apricot surface. Similar colors are also noted for the reverse, where they are bolder and even more vivid. Highly lustrous and very smooth, with an equally impressive strike that remains strong from the rims to the centers. Marvelous!
