This is the SOLE FINEST graded at PCGS, and is a beautiful example of this two-year No Stars obverse type. There is nothing we do not LOVE about this AMAZING coin. A short lived, visually balanced type which does not have the stars surrounding Gobrecht's Seated Liberty, and is based on the sketches by Gobrecht, Titan Peale, and Thomas Sully. Stars were added to the obverse and would remain there until 1859. Frosty, boldly lustrous and brilliant surfaces are wholly original and top notch in both terms of eye appeal and technical quality. The obverse is bathed in a handsome blend of antique pewter with lemon-yellow and lilac accents. Deeper slate-dove and golden rose accents in areas add to the allure. The reverse has a stunning bullseye pattern of Caribbean blue at the rims and tangerine-rose near the centers. The devices are sharply struck up from the Fortin-101 dies, the diagnostic cud is seen at 2:00 on the reverse. The eye appeal is sensational and will no doubt delight even the most jaded of collectors. PCGS 5, NGC 4, CAC 3. This is the ONLY 65+ graded by either service and sold in the 2015 Central States auction for $32,900. Today, eight years later, and in a stronger market, the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $40,000. This is a true prize for the Seated Liberty dime collector.
