Legend Rare Coin Auctions Auction The Regency Auction XXIII October 2017 Oct-2017 This is the famed Gene Gardner coin, a stunning SUPERB GEM that ranks among the very finest of this early Seated Liberty dime. The visual appeal and technical qualities are SUPERB in every way possible. The first thing that hits you is the exceptional, totally original iridescent patina on both sides. Lovely pastel blue, gold, and rose shades blend together over an abundance of satiny mint frost. Well struck throughout the details are very sharp and the fields are very smooth and free of any distracting marks or lines. A very interesting variety that displays a boldly repunched mintmark and bisecting die crack across the reverse, bearing the attribution: Greer-102, Fortin-104a, FS-501. PCGS 5, NGC 5, CAC 2. There is only a single MS66+, and three coins finer at PCGS. A regular MS66 graded by PCGS without CAC approval sold in March 2017 for $12,925 and in our Regency Auction XIX (December 2016) a PCGS MS67 CAC sold for $25,850. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $19,000. A great type coin or a high end Seated dime collection. Cert. Number 25631856 PCGS # 4572
