Stack's Bowers Auction August 2018 ANA U.S. Coins Auction Philadelphia, PA Aug-2018 1865 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-4. Rarity-4+. Bar 6. MS-63 (PCGS). Smartly impressed with sharp to full definition throughout, this otherwise satin white example exhibits bisecting swaths of pale gold iridescence at isolated viewing angles. Like numerous other circulation strike Liberty Seated dollar issues from the 1850s and 1860s, the 1865 is a precursor to the United States Mint's trade dollar introduced in 1873. Most examples of this 46,500-piece issues were used in international trade, in this instance with Central and South America as opposed to the Orient. With few examples retained stateside or later repatriated, the 1865 is scarce to rare in all grades, both circulated and Mint State. In the latter category the present offering is undeniably rare from a condition standpoint and is sure to catch the eye of advanced collectors specializing in the challenging Liberty Seated dollar series. Provenance: From The Des Moines Collection. PCGS Population: 6; 11 finer (MS-65 finest). PCGS# 6955. NGC ID: 24Z8. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
