1865 Three-Dollar Gold Piece
Original Lot at Stack's Bowers
||August 2011 Chicago ANA World's Fair of Money Auction
||1865 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. AU-58 (PCGS). Lustrous deep honey gold with warm orange toning highlights and somewhat reflective surfaces in the protected areas. A scarce and popular Civil War date that saw a mintage of just 1,140 pieces, a fairly low figure even within the context of a series that is laden with low-mintage dates. Pleasing for the grade with no noticeable marks to assail the unassisted eye.
