Legend Rare Coin Auctions Auction The Regency Auction 26 May-2018 FROM THE P.F.M. COLLECTION. Ex Shrike Set. The KING of the Morgan dollar series, the rarest date struck for circulation, and an important KEY date in ANY GRADE. Only 100,000 were struck, the lowest of all where surviving coins are known (there are 12,000 1895 Philadelphia mint issues listed as having been coined, but none of these are known). Only light friction on the surfaces keep this lustrous piece from a full Mint State grade. Under a strong glass we note some very fine lines and a scuff or two that we describe for full disclosure. A pale light gold color can be seen on the surfaces when the lustrous surfaces are viewed in a light source. PCGS 13, NGC 15. This is the most recent example to sell in auction, realizing $80,500 in the 2011 FUN Auction that featured the Shrike Set and going back to 2003, only two other PCGS AU58s have ever sold in auction! Any Mint State coin is a six-figure coin, with the most recent MS60, an NGC coin selling for $123,375 in September 2013. We think the PCGS Price Guide of $55,000 is just plain wrong. For an example of this KEY Morgan not to appear in over seven years, this is an opportunity not to be taken lightly! You can now finally upgrade your collection! Good luck! Cert.
