||1896-O Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-63+ (PCGS).
An impressive strike and condition rarity for this challenging New Orleans Mint Morgan dollar issue. The detail is truly impressive in an 1896-O, both sides with bold central definition and all other features fully rendered. Billowy mint luster is frosty and smooth, the in hand appearance suggestive of an even higher Choice Mint State grade. Brilliant, attractive and worthy of a strong premium. With a mintage figure of nearly 5 million pieces, examples of the 1896-O up through Choice About Uncirculated can be obtained with minimal effort and expenditure. In spite of the liberal production figure, the vast majority of coins were subjected to circulation and relatively few pieces were hoarded in Treasury vaults. Choice Mint State pieces are relatively elusive in the marketplace, with true Gems remaining virtually unobtainable. The present MS-63+ represents a significant find for the advanced collector specializing in America's favorite silver dollar series.
