PCGS: The Standard for the Rare Coin Industry

Type 2, Facing Right, Large Head

High Relief Head
Low Relief Head

Ron Guth: In 1794, Liberty's head took a new direction --- to the right. In addition, the head on the 1794 half cent is larger relative to the head of the 1793 and 1795 half cents. One of the obverse dies features hair in high relief, with heavily engraved locks of hair. In high grade, these coins are quite impressive. The 1794 half cent is not a particularly rare date, but nicely preserved examples can be elusive.
