This is the first official penny authorized by the United States. It is referred to as a Fugio cent as it has the word Fugio on the obverse. The word Fugio in Latin means "I Fly." In this case implying "Time Flies."

There are many different varieties issued for the Fugio cents since several different dies were used to strike the coins. (See PCGS Coin #'s 871 -914)
