The 1796 NC-6 is an extremely rare coin, known by only two examples. Denis Loring discovered this variety in 1970, when he purchased the first example unattributed at the August ANA convention. In 1984, Doug Bird found a second example, also unattributed, at a coin show in Long Beach, California. Both examples are in very poor condition (AG3 or worse), and collectors are looking actively for a third example.
