Ron Guth:

This coin is a privately-made restrike using an odd combination of a discarded 1803 die altered to 1804 and a discarded reverse die from 1820. In recent years, these have become favorites with collectors because of their unusual appearance and because of the rarity of real 1804 Large Cents.
