This is the first year of issue for the Platinum Eagle coin series.

The 1997 $10 Mint State coins have the highest mintage in the series. Most coins are in MS69 quality. The second most common grade is MS68. In perfect MS70 grade, they are extremely difficult to find despite the very large mintage.
