Jaime Hernandez: The 2009 Braille Commemorative Dollars first went on sale on March 26, 2009.
The coins were produced to commemorate the 200th birth date of Louis Braille.

The maximum authorized mintage was set at 400,000 coins for both the uncirculated and proof versions combined. From the maximum authorized mintage, 25,000 uncirculated coins were also set aside for a special uncirculated set.

• The uncriculated coins were being offered by the U.S Mint at a pre-sale price $31.95 each.

• The regular issue price was then set to $33.95 each.
