Jaime Hernandez:

The $1 2016-W Proof Silver Eagles were originally issued by the U.S. Mint on September 16, 2016. The coins had an issue price of $53.95 each. To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Silver Eagles, the U.S. Mint changed the edge of the coins. In previous years the coins had a reeded edge. In 2016, the uncirculated and proof coins had the inscriptions "30th Anniversary." As of 2016, this is the only year in which the Mint plans to add the inscriptions on the edge rather than having a reeded edge.
