Coins Good Enough for Mom on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is one of those holidays so many of us just simply don’t forget… And while two of the most popular Mother’s Day gifts are flowers and cards, there’s another gift that people can give their mothers. Coins!

My mom, who passed away in 2009, was often the recipient of coins that I gifted her on holidays as a way of sharing my love of the numismatic hobby with her. She never became a bona fide coin collector, but as I grew further into the hobby, she often asked me questions about this coin or that and engaged with me on coins quite frequently… I also think she had a passive interest in coins as keepsakes because she often reminisced about a 1921 Morgan Dollar her father kept for years as a pocket piece – a coin I eventually inherited. She also had several coins that she kept in a little jewelry box.

So what’s the perfect coin gift for your mom? You probably know far better than I would. But I’ve got some ideas…

  • Coins that depict children – 2013 Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. Centennial Dollar, 2015 March of Dimes 75th Anniversary Dollar, and 2017 Boys Town Centennial Dollar
  • Coins with flowers – 1997 U.S. Botanic Garden Dollar, 1999 Dolley Madison Dollar, and 2002 Mississippi State Quarter
  • Coins featuring historical women – 2003 Alabama Quarter (with Helen Keller), 1995 Special Olympics World Games Dollar (with Eunice Kennedy Shriver), and 2022 Maya Angelou Quarter

None of those ideas feel right for your mom? Don’t worry! There are countless other options… Why not buy your mom a coin that features something important to her? Maybe a certain hobby? National landmark she loves visiting? A coin with a saying that she likes? If you think about it, there are limitless possibilities when it comes to finding the right coin to give your mom for Mother’s Day. Just don’t forget to also give her a card and flowers… Oh, and don’t forget to give her a hug!
