Do you think you could identify all 50 states if given a map of the United States without state names emblazoned across it in the correct spots? Do you know what states border the Great Lakes? Can you tell the Dakotas apart from Wyoming and Montana?

Some of you may snicker at these questions thinking them little more than sarcastic. Others will be genuinely scratching their heads. But Geography Awareness Week is as good as any time to brush up on your knowledge of the 50 states. Thankfully, the United States Mint has made geography a little more accessible to the numismatic set with the release of the 50 State Quarters, which were produced from 1999 through 2008.

Granted, only 15 of the various state quarters depict a geographical outline of the respective states those coins honor. Yet all of the 50 designs in the still-popular quarter program teach us a thing or two about the states they honor. Each coin carries a unique flavor that can help inspire collectors to learn more about each of the 50 states – and not just where they are on a map. Not in the least… The 50 State Quarters can also fill us with a sense of knowledge, pride, and excitement about the diverse patchwork of our nation, made up of 50 states and a variety of people and cultures.

The PCGS Set Registry offers numerous opportunities for building a 50 States Quarter set, with numerous options geared toward more affordable, straightforward sets as well as more numismatically challenging sets that entail rare and valuable varieties and more. With so many avenues for collecting 50 States Quarters on the PCGS Set Registry, there is something for just about everybody.

Check it out today and find the 50 State Quarters sets that excite you most. You’ll surely enjoy the numismatic adventure and may just learn a thing or two about United States geography in the process.
