Investing Time in Numismatics Pays Off
By Jaime Hernandez, eCollector Editor

The more you invest in something, the more you will like it! If we invest money in upgrading our home or even invest time in our body by eating well and exercising, the odds are we will like it more.

The same thing applies to coins. Therefore, the more time we invest in learning about a specific coin, the odds are the more we will like that coin. And the more time we spend learning about the coin hobby, the odds are that we will enjoy it more too.

So if you want to enjoy the hobby more, learn something new about a specific coin or just stay informed on what is going on in the coin hobby. We will try to help you enjoy the hobby as much as possible through the PCGS eCollector.

Please take the time to read our featured article discussing PQ coins. Let us know what you think about the term PQ coins and Don's comments, whether you agree or not. Your comments will be posted in the PCGS Message Boards and you can read and reply to other readers' responses.

Interview with Don Willis – Discussing the Term PQ
By Jaime Hernandez

An entire book can be written on the subject of PQ (Premium Quality) coins. In this interview, we will try to address some of the most important questions pertaining to PQ when the term is used in the coin market.

To assist me with this subject, I asked PCGS President Don Willis for his opinions. Don was involved in the U.S. coin market for many years as a major coin dealer before becoming PCGS President.

JH: Hi Don, thank you for taking the time to discuss the term PQ. Now, are there really PQ coins in the market which have already been graded?

Don: Yes, there are many PQ coins out there in the market. Some of the coins are already recognized and presented by dealers and collectors as being PQ. There are also other coins which the owners have no idea or don't even care that their coins are PQ, as they are just happy with their coins. Read More...

British Royal Mint Issues 2008 Mule Error Coins

The Royal Mint accidentally produced tens of thousands of 20p Mule error coins late last year and in recent weeks the mules are just being discovered by collectors. Reports indicate that these are the first mules produced by the Royal Mint in more than 300 years. The Royal Mint recently issued a statement indicating that anywhere from 50,000 to 200,000 of these error coins could have entered circulation.

The 20p coins underwent a design change last year (the Royal Mint redesigns its coinage approximately every 40 years). When the new redesign took place, the date was moved from the reverse to the obverse on regular 2008 20p coins. Read More...
