PCGS Grading Coins in Hong Kong This Week!
By Don Willis

As you read this, a large team from PCGS is in Hong Kong for our inaugural onsite grading trip. Coin collecting is an International hobby and as the entire world embraces third-party certification, PCGS will be there. Over the last couple years, the number of World coins (I apologize to non-U.S. readers) we have been asked to authenticate and grade grew by leaps and bounds. We now operate in Paris, Hong Kong and of course the United States and attend shows in 16 different countries each year. Soon you will see PCGS-graded coins around the world. The peace of mind that comes with PCGS' authentication and unbiased grading combined with our leading unlimited guarantee, is enough to convince most collectors to give their coins to PCGS. If you hurry it's not too late to submit coins for onsite grading in Hong Kong. Visit our website at for instructions in both English and Chinese.

We now operate.

Happy collecting!

Please let us know how you are enjoying the PCGS eCollector.

Bimetallism in Europe - Doomed to Failure
By BJ Searls

Did you know that the European Monetary Union (EMU) is not the first time Europe has established a single currency market across all its member states? In 1865, four countries; Belgium, France, Italy and Switzerland formed a union called the Latin Monetary Union (LMU) for which silver and gold would be the standard. While accounts vary from one resource to another, most agree that in 1868, Bulgaria and Greece also joined the LMU. And a number of other countries, including Spain, Romania, Austria, Finland, Venezuela, Serbia, Montenegro, San Marino and the Papal States, while not official members of the LMU, used the same bimetallism specifications. PCGS CoinFacts 1875-CC $10 (Regular Strike)

Since the launch of PCGS CoinFacts,™ we have been hard at work updating and expanding the site's information. Here's another recent example:

David Akers (1975/88): Few, if any, U.S. gold coin issues come more well-worn than this very rare date. Since all 1875-CC Eagles are softly struck, obtaining an 1875-CC with a presentable appearance is nearly impossible. This issue is tied with the 1864-S and 1867-S in rarity according to average grade. Overall, this date is similar in rarity to the 1872-CC, 1873-CC and 1876-CC, all three of which have substantially lower mintages than the 1875-CC.
