About This Set: Switzerland has high regard for guns. The private militia keep their weapons at home. Switzerland has one of the highest guns per capita ratio in the world. Greater than 5% of the population are part of the militia. Shooting festival competitions have been widely held in Switzerland since 1824. The most recent was in 2005 and the next one will be in 2010. Initially they were held by the cantons. Since the formation of the Swiss Confederation in 1848, they have been held by the Confederation in various cities. Coins (such as these in this series) and medals have been awarded to the marksmen. Usually about 50,000 marksmen attend the festivals. The festivals have been declared a factor of Swiss unity and direct democracy.

It should be noted that PCGS does not recognize prooflikes in this coin series.

Yes, Craig, you are right. I have had a lot of difficulty finding the Vaud in Mint State. Only three in entire PCGS pop report. PCGS only added the Geneva coin at my suggestion. If / when I get a mint state Vaud, I will suggest they add it to the set. Perhaps I can reference your comment. You helped with this set, because I purchased the 1869 Zug from you. Thanks.

Outstanding set. Wish there were more pictures.

Great Set! If you include the 1851 Geneva 10Fr, you should also include the 1845 Vaud 1Fr for a "complete" set of denominated coins.
