Barry Sunshine, a collector of California Fractional Gold coins and a student of the series, has this to say about the BG-303:

BG-303 is a very rare and scarce coin and is listed as a Rarity 7 (about 12 known). BG-303 is a real challenge to find and it has a lot of interest when available.  BG-303 shares the same reverse as BG-302 and these two coins are referred to as the “Peacock Reverse.” In actuality, the “Peacock” is an Eagle with rays behind it which look like the feathers of its tail. The easiest way to tell the difference between BG-302 and the rare BG-303 is the number of stars on the obverse. BG-303 has 10 stars around the circumference whereas BG-302 has 13 stars on the obverse.

There are approximately one dozen BG-303’s known to exist. Mint State examples are exceedingly rare and no choice examples are known.
