1895-O 10C AU58 Certification #21392127, PCGS #4807

Owner's Comments

This is one of the few coins in the Barber Dime series where the MS version has a higher rarity rating then the AU. The 95-O is the key to the set. The toning is quite nice with a mix of gold and green irridescence with rose hues moving to the centers, although perhaps too darkly toned for some. A strong strike for an O mint coin, note Liberty's head band and the reverse detail. Total PCGS AU population is 33 with 9 in AU 58. The BCCS rating is R5.

The 1895-O Dime has a small mintage relative to many of the other dates in the series, but in terms of the number of certified examples, it ranks as third most common after the 1892 and 1898.  However, the large majority of the certified examples are circulated, and Mint State examples are very scarce.  Two small clusters appear at the MS63 and MS65 levels, the the population drops off precipitously and tops out at MS66+.  The two best examples are from the Simpson Collection (PCGS MS66) and the Lily Nicole Collection (PCGS MS66+).  David Akers, who specialize in Barber coinage, could only muster a PCGS MS65 (ex Norweb) for his collection.
