1910 1C, RD PR66+ RD Certification #25220768, PCGS #3308
From Stewart Blay - At the 1989 ANA in Pittsburgh Todd Imhof and Rusty Goe, offered me the proof 1915 from an original 1915 proof set which I bought and is part of this set. They showed me the 1910 in a proof 67 holder but said they could not sell it to me because it was pre sold to a client as a complete 1910 proof set with gold. So every year, at least once I would call Todd and ask him when his client would break up the set and sell me the penny.
Finally after either 10 or 15 years later, Todd called me to say the set was being broken up and he could offer me the1910 for about $30,000 or close to it. I told him that since I had not seen the coin in more than 10 years, I would have to view it in hand. So in January, I remember he sent Scott Schecter to New York City to hand deliver me the coin. Unfortunately for Scott, there was a 2 foot snowfall in New York City at the same time. Scott called Todd and said, “I’m lost and freezing in a snow storm trying to find Stewart’s place!! I went to Harvard for this?” So the snowman came and delivered me the coin, and as I remembered, it was the finest 1910 cent I had ever seen. This was also confirmed when I resubmitted the coin in Chicago in 2021, and it regraded PCGS Proof 68 red .
