The Grant Gold Dollar is one of the several coins honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of the 18th American President, Ulysses S. Grant. The several coins included silver Half Dollars (with and without a star punched into the obverse die) and gold Dollars (with and without the extra obverse star). With a mintage of a mere 5,000 pieces, this is an extremely popular, collectible coin. The survival rate is extremely high -- bordering on 100% -- and many of the survivors are in excellent condition. According to the PCGS Population Report, the bulk of the survivors grade out at MS64, MS65, and MS66. The ultimate grade for this issue is MS67, and even at that level, over 150 examples are available to collectors.
