Starting in 1934, all of the Walking Liberty half dollars (with the lone exception of the very low mintage 1938-D) are very common in low circulated grades and sell for just a small premium over their silver bullion value. In mint state condition, the story is quite different and the dates vary in availability greatly. The 1934-D is one of the very rarest of the 1934-1947 Walkers in mint state condition. It is also very tough in Gem condition. Strike can be a problem with this issue, but unlike the S-Mints which often have weakness on Ms. Liberty's hand, the 1934-D can suffer from a weakly struck head, and for some reason an incompletely struck date is often seen. Luster is of the white frosty type so look for a nice frosty coin with a well struck head and date.
