The 2009 Lincoln Commemorative coins were issued in 2009 to commemorate Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birth date. The coins were authorized under Public Law 109-285.

The U.S. Mint implemented a 500,000 coin limit for both the $1 Proof and Uncirculated coins combined.

The coins first became available from the U.S. Mint on February, 12, 2009. The same day, the first 2009 Lincoln cent with a new design was also released by the U.S Mint.

By March 27th, the U.S. Mint sold out the uncirculated coins. Two days after, the Mint sold out the Proof coins as well. Therefore, within about a six week period, the Mint sold out the 450,000 Lincoln Commemorative coins of both the Uncirculated and Proof versions combined. Atleast 60 percent of the sold coins were beleived to be the proof versions.
