The U.S. Mint began taking orders for the Uncirculated 2016 Silver Eagles from its Authorized Purchasers on January 11, 2016. The previous year or 2015, the Mint broke the record for the highest amount of Silver Eagles produced, as it struck approximately 45 million Silver Eagles for 2015.

The 2016 Uncirculated Silver Eagles also proved to be very popular as within the first month, there was a huge demand for the coins. The Uncirculated Silver Eagles are purchased from the U.S. Mint by it's Authorized Purchasers at a $2 premium over the spot price of silver. The Authorized Purchasers then sell the coins to other dealers and collectors in large quantities.
