The ten-piece Proof set for 1870 includes five base metal coins; the Cent, Two Cent, a pair of Three Cent pieces (in Nickel and Silver) and a Five Cent Nickel; and five silver coins; a Half Dime, Dime, Quarter, Half and Dollar. Mintage this year was 1000 pieces, meaning that most all the coins can be found with a relatively modest effort, but as always, finding the best ups the ante. Including the six gold coins for 1870 means that you'll need to dig deep into your wallet. While 35 pieces of each were made, survival rates run from about 1/3 (for the Double Eagles) up to about 2/3 (for the smaller denominations. Auction appearances are infrequent at best.

Notes: This set has bonuses. Please see the Set Composition for a listing.
