The American Plantation Tokens are an interesting group of pewter coins issued circa 1688 by Richard Holt for use in the British colonies. The front of the coins features an image of King James II on horseback. This set contains all of the major varieties known within the series, plus the interesting restrike made around 1828. This is a reasonably affordable, four coin set that can be completed without too much difficulty. Our favorite variety in this set is the one with the sideways 4 in the value on the reverse. The challenge is finding clean examples with as little tin-pesting (oxidation) as possible.
