About This Set:
Since 1997, the first CSDG (California Small Denomination Gold) was purchased for this collection. It took 20 years (06/28/2017) to hit 80% completion milestone, and 24 years (11/16/2021) to hit 90% completion milestone. Till today, no one ever completed this collection and I doubt anyone can achieve 98% of completion because based on BG-2 book, 31 are unique and 38 are R8 (2-3 pieces known to exist). On 06/20/2021, this set contains 500 different varieties of period one and period two CSDG which might be the third set that ever reaches this achievement. Moreover, many new varieties were identified after BG-2 book published in 2003. I can list a few here, 209C, 529A, 603A, 719A, 735A, 799GG, 820A, 821A and 847A.
Between 1872 and 1882, many of CSDG coins can link to CNDG (California No Denomination Gold). Either they shared the same obverse dies or there was a linkage from period 2 CSDG. It is a wild west to study these period 2 CNDG. There are about 40-50 known varieties to collect and many are very rare. If anyone has any of these CNDG would like to trade, please email me at [email protected] .
