About This Set:
This set has several notable coins. Most significantly, the 1856 Snow-3 in this set stands alone as the only known example of the coveted Snow-3 die variety universally recognized as a true Proof striking. The other 1856 "Rare Proofs" are the Snow-2 (6 exist), Snow-4 (10 exist), and Snow-5 (14 exist) and they are much rarer than the 1857-1858 Proofs. In this set, the Snow-2 is the finest known, and the Snow-4 is tied for finest. The Snow-5 is the third finest. The Snow-9 is by far the most common in comparison, but even it is considered a rare coin, and the specific example in this set is considered by leading expert Rick Snow as a strong contender for the finest surviving example. Besides the Snow-5, there is actually no room for improvement for the other five 1856 coins. All three of the 1857, 1858 LL, and 1858 SL could be improved further, but there are very few examples actually better than the ones here, all of which have a CAC.
