About This Set: ** Many thanks to PCGS for honoring this set as "Best Exhibited Set" for 2009!! ** Highlighted by the amazing Eliasberg 1893-S and Norweb 1895-O dollars, the finest known 1892-O and 1903-S dollars (both ex Eliasberg), and a number of "monster-toned" MS67 and MS68 coins, the Sunnywood Collection includes this complete Registry set plus many equally beautiful duplicates. The goal of this endeavor was to show the numismatic community that Morgans can be collected with originality and color, and need not be dipped "blast white." Specifically, the owner has sought to collect gem-quality Morgan dollars with colorful natural toning on the obverse. Sunnywood has tried to strike a balance between color and technical grade; thus Registry ranking has sometimes been sacrificed for the sake of eye appeal. Each toned coin has a very distinctive appearance and personality that results from its decades of history. The result is a fascinating collection with great eye appeal that was highly challenging to assemble. Many common dates can be found with dramatic and vibrant multi-colored rainbow Mint bag toning. Among these, there are also coins that can be found with fascinating patterns acquired from contact with the burlap canvas of the Mint bags ("textile toners"), or with roll-paper toning acquired by coins at the ends of bank-wrapped rolls ("end rollers"). For many other dates, however, it becomes a challenge to find any attractive original examples. Some of the rarer dates are virtually unknown in mint state with nice natural color; in those cases original specimens from the great collections such as Eliasberg and Norweb are the Holy Grail. Sunnywood considers the "Basic Set" to be exactly 100 coins: the 97 included here by PCGS, plus the three significant hub varieties (1878 Rev. of '79, 1879-S Rev. of '78, and 1880/79-CC Rev. of '78). Please also be sure to visit our Registry set of duplicates, which offers many additional colorful pieces. It may be found around #138 on the Current Finest list in this category. There are also a few triplicates in a another set down around #276. Thanks for stopping by !!

WOW...I have always thought about building a set of rainbow Morgans. This set makes me want to see that through.

If rainbows were somehow tracked separately, the population of many of the coins in this set would be vanishingly small. I believe this set is the most beautifuls and was one of the most challenging to create in the registry.

Breathtaking! Congratulations! This clearly demonstrates some serious collecting. Very Nicely Done!!!

WOW, this is what collecting is all about. I love the fact that this is much more than just a date and mint mark set. I was getting tired of seeing collections of all white Morgans. After viewing two or three they all look the same.
