1869 Proof Set with Gold

The ten-piece 1869 Proof Set contains no unusually rare dates. All are of average rarity for the period, and the mintage of 600 pieces is also typical. Currently, the Set Registry is topped by the incredible midsouthcoin set, with an astronomical set rating of 68.7. It epitomizes what the Registry is all about, eclipsing the holdings of such legendary collections as Newcomer, Norweb, Garrett and Dunham. The Gold portion also mirrors that of the 1868 set. Twenty-five sets were struck and an opportunity to acquire a Proof Double Eagle occurs maybe once or twice a decade, and only slightly more often for the lower denominations.
