1882 Mint Set with Gold

The 1882 Mint Set (without Gold) is one of the easier sets to assemble as there are no major rarities this year. Even the Morgan Dollars in high grade are widely available. The Quarter and Half remain elusive, but affordable. The Cent, Nickel and Dime are reasonably common. The Three Cent Nickel is definitely a better date, but prices even for it, are fairly low. Adding gold however, changes the picture dramatically. The 1882-P Double Eagle is a major rarity. With a mintage of only 571 pieces, it appears at auction an average of about once a year, and often brings in the upper five-figure range even in circulated grades. All the "CC" gold is tough, particularly the Eagle, of which only three Mint State pieces have been graded.
