As the first Morgan Dollar struck, the 1878 8TF is always popular with collectors. In their Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars, authors Van Allen and Mallis have identified some 41 varieties of this first Morgan dollar. Most of the scarcest varieties are in the range of VAM 14.5 through 14.20. This is a specialist's set to be sure, but that has not deterred four very dedicated collectors thus far from completing this achievement.
