The 1878 Morgan is a popular date with collectors, and Van Allen and Mallis have detailed 35 varieties of the 7 tailfeather variety. Naturally these range from the common to the scarce, and collectors attempting this specialty set will find it toughest to obtain the "Spiked Eye" (VAM 123) and the "Tripled Eye" (VAM 166). Five current sets are complete, so this is certainly a set that can be successfully undertaken.
