The Mexico City Mint was the first Mint in the New World (established 1536) and it still produces coins today. From 1823 to 1897, the Mexico City Mint produced Cap & Rays 8 Reales with only two brief interruptions. The key date for this series is the elusive 1847-MoMF, which is found with a normal date and an 1847/6 overdate, both of which are very rare. Apart from the ever-popular and desirable Hook-Necks of 1823 and 1824, the rest of the coins in this set are obtainable and affordable. As is typical of this type, filling holes is the first consideration, upgrading in the ensuing years is the second.
