The 1968 Proof marked the return of Proof Sets after a three year hiatus. Big changes came though, as they now bore the "S" mintmark (the first regular Proof Coins to be minted in San Francisco) and they came packaged in a hard plastic holder. The coins were also the first of the clad coins to appear in a Proof set. This landmark set truly marked the start of the modern era in U.S. Mint products.
