Shield Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1866-1883)

Hey, let's put this set together! This is the first nickel five-cent coin, and the series contains two major types, the 1866-67 Rays and the 1867-83 No Rays. This series is filled with "problem" coins, as the 1867 Rays is almost always poorly struck and many issues have planchet problems and/or poor luster. Including the major varieties adds three coins to the Basic Set. The 1866/1866 doubled date, the open and closed "3" varieties of the 1873 and finally the 1883/2 overdate that concludes the series. None of these varieties are extremely difficult, but the overdate will be the toughest of the three.
