Morgan Dollars GSA Hoard with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1878-1891)

In several mail bid sales between 1972 and 1974, and then again in the summer of 1980, the U.S. Government (through the General Services Administration or GSA) disposed of some 3 million Carson City silver dollars. These ranged from well circulated, through uncirculated, and contained a significant portion of the original mintage of most dates from the early 1880s. While dates ranged from 1878 to 1891, most of the coins in the hoard were dated between 1880 and 1885. Relatively few 1879, 1890 and 1891-CC's were sold, making them the key pieces in this set. The 1880-CC features some overdate varieties, four of which are included in this Major Variety set.
