Twenty Cents, Circulation Strikes (1875-1876) - CAC

This is the 19th century version of the Susan B. Anthony dollar! The twenty cent piece was only issued for four years, then it was abandoned. Why? Many reasons, but the most notable was that it was too similar in size and appearance to the quarter dollar. Déjà vu, anyone? Today this four-piece set is a numismatic classic. Five business strikes were actually made, but virtually all of the Carson City mintage of 1876 was melted at the mint, so our Basic Circulation Set omits that issue. Among the four coins, the 1875-CC is the "better" date while the most frequently encountered will be the 1875-S. A short, but challenging set that remains a fascination to this day.
