1922 No D 1C Strong Reverse MS63BN PCGS #3285

1922 No D Strong Reverse Cent, MS63 Brown Rare in This Numeric Grade and Color 1922 1C No D, Strong Reverse, FS-401, MS63 Brown PCGS. Die Pair 2. This is the only universally recognized No D variety, in which the D mintmark was deliberately and completely ground off in the process of removing some die damage that occurred in the coining press (per Bowers, 2008). Die Pairs 1 and 3, on the other hand, show a weakened D mintmark resulting from either heavy die polishing or from a grease-filled die. This Select Brown specimen displays the diagnostics of Die Pair 2: the second 2 in the date is sharper than the first, all letters in TRUST are clearly delineated, and the reverse is very sharp, especially the lines and grains of the wheat stalks. Both sides display uniformly bluish-brown patination and reveal just a few minute grade-defining marks. PCGS has designated only 37 Brown examples as Mint State. Population: 10 in 63 Brown, 3 finer (4/14).(Registry values: P2)
