1802 Mint Set with Gold

The 1802 Mint Set is tough! Seriously tough in fact. The 1802 Half Dime is one of the classic rarities in United States coins thanks to a small mintage (3,060) and a low survival rate. With an estimated 35 survivors, locating one is only the first problem. Paying for it is the second, as pretty much anything you'd want to look at will cost you six figures. Your troubles don't end there, for the 1802 Half Cent is also a tough coin – the Reverse of 1800 prohibitively so, but the Reverse of 1802 is just plain scarce. The Half Dollar is also a better date, selling on average for about 3X a "common date" price. Really, only the Cent and Dollar are common dates for the type. But that matters little. To complete this set you need the Half Dime. Good luck. Now, if the Half Dime hasn't discouraged you, and you yearn for more of a challenge, the two gold coins for 1802 can help provide some. No Eagles were struck, but the Quarter and Half Eagle for 1802 can raise the bar a bit further. Neither are rarities in their respective series, but keep in mind that no early gold is easy and five-figures is the typical entry price for gold of this era.
