The 1803 Mint Set marks the swan song for the Silver Dollar. After 10 years of production, it would not reappear again until the late 1830s, and circulation strikes would not be issued until 1840. Aside from the Quarter (which was on hiatus) the set is quite complete with a Half Cent, a Cent, Half Dime, Dime, Half Dollar and of course a Dollar. Most of the 1803 coins are common dates for the type. Some, like the Dime however, are condition rarities with Mint State pieces almost unknown. With no Quarter Eagle made in 1803, only two gold coins are needed for this year's "With Gold" set. Neither is rare, but remember that "rare" is a relative term, and no pre-1834 Gold can really be termed "common" in the traditional sense of the word. Suffice it to say that none of the 1803 Gold is any tougher due solely to the date.
Notes: This set has bonuses. Please see the Set Composition for a listing.
