S-104. NGC FR2. Nice, problem free example of this scarce variety. “LIHERTY” is bold and most details, including a full date, are visible in person. I definitely need to cross this one over so I can use it in my lowball sets.

The 1796 LIHERTY Large Cent was caused because the letter B was rotated 180 degrees when being punched into the coin die. Upon catching the mistake, the Mint die sinker re-punched the letter the correct way creating a letter that looks like an H rather than a B, and as result creating the popular LIHERTY variety. There are not too many examples that exist of this variety making it very scarce, especially in graded of Fine or higher.
