Quickfinder Notes: There are two Large Star Reverse dies: Bass-Dannreuther:(BD)5 and 8. The stars have LONG RAYS and are VERY CLOSELY SPACED. The stars COMPLETELY FILL the space between the clouds and the eagle's head. The stars are an positioned in an ARC PATTERN top to bottom. This arc pattern will be seen on all reverses to follow; 1800 through the end of the series in 1807. By contrast, the Small Stars Reverse has stars with SHORT POINTED RAYS that are SPACED WELL APART.The Large Star Reverse is by far the rarer of the two types. As of January, 2014, only 23 specimens have been graded and only two are in Mint State, both 63s. Th Small Stars Reverse shows 56 graded of which 16 are Mint State, topped out with a lone 64.
